Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day, we hold all of it — the gratitude and the grief, the love freely given and the love we still long for.

We pray with these words from The Rev. Anthony Suggs-Perea of St. Luke’s on the Lake, Austin, TX:

We give thanks to you, O God, for the divine gift of motherhood in all its forms:
For the mothers among us today, for our own mothers, those living and those who have passed away.
For the mothers who loved us well and those who fell short of loving us fully; grant us the forgiveness and peace of your redeeming love.
For all who hope to be mothers someday, those whose hope to have children has been frustrated, and mothers whose children have died; Comfort and uphold them in your loving care.
For chosen families, and those who have been our substitute mothers, whose love lifted us and helped us grow; may we all have the courage to be agents of your grace.
We give you thanks for Mary the mother of Jesus, who bore the Prince of Peace, the Light of your Love in the world; may we also be bearers of your light and love that many may come to know and love you through her Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
